Resource Management

We collaborate with indigenous communities to monitor wildlife species of ecological and cultural importance to develop community management plans to ensure food security and long-term sustainability.

Mammal monitoring

Sustainable mammal management is important for the health and survival of the Maijuna and the forest itself. We conduct ongoing research on mammal populations in the Maijuna Kichwa Regional Conservation Area (ACRMK), where traditional hunters support their families through sustainable hunting. We explore questions about sustainability, food security, and the dynamics between humans and animal species that are both ecologically and culturally important.

Unsustainable hunting is one of the largest drivers of biodiversity loss in the Amazon Basin, posing not only conservation challenges but also threats to the food security and economic stability of rural people who depend on wild animal hunting for their livelihoods. With the Maijuna, we work to ensure the sustainable use of vulnerable medium- and large-sized mammals in the ACRMK.
